The world has changed rapidly over the past few years in many different ways. Once smoking was socially acceptable. Today it is not. Science has increased our knowledge of the association between smoking and certain health issues. Medical discoveries have linked smoking to so many different health problems. Lung cancer, chronic pulmonary obstructive disease (COPD) and coronary heart disease are just a few of the many reasons why people need to quit smoking.
Yet, people continue to smoke. This does not mean they have not tired to quit. Time-after-time, individuals have turned to special gums and over-the-counter “guaranteed” methods. They have talks to their doctors and tried almost everything. Nothing has worked. If you are one of these individuals, I can suggest a simple method – hypnosis. Self-hypnosis is a type of hypnosis or hypnotism. It is often called autohypnosis. Self-hypnosis is a trance-like condition you can self induce. It is not relaxation. Your mind does not turn itself over to someone else or some higher being. You are in control.
Using the process of self-hypnosis simply makes your subconscious more susceptible to suggestions – your suggestions. In accomplishing this, self-hypnosis becomes a wonderful tool. You can use it to help you and your subconscious relearn. You can overcome bad habits. You can alter the way your subconscious views your life.
The process is both simple and reliable. It is also easier on your pocket book than treatments by many other methods. It does, however, require you to be focused on the goal. You need to formulate what exactly you have in mind, first before you try to alter your subconscious.
Self- Hypnosis and Smoking
In the case of smoking, you have a specific habit in mind for self-hypnosis – smoking. To stop smoking is your goal, one easily obtainable through this process. In order to accomplish this, you have to understand the basics. You need to know how best to use this tool to accomplish what you wish.
At this point, you will need to ask yourself what exactly you want. It is easy to say: “I want to quit smoking.” Yet, you need to understand your subconscious is not really listening. It is used to smoking. You have developed a habit you need to get rid of and now you can. Through using self hypnosis, smoking will stop. It will cease without many of the problems associated with quitting, including cravings.
It is important to answer the question concerning quitting. It will help you prepare a script for the process. It will also aid you in your visualising. Visualisation is a very important part of self-hypnosis. You need to use it to help your subconscious embrace the new vision of yourself as a permanent non-smoker.
Why Visualisation?
Visualisation is a technique used in many different psychological and sociological approaches and sciences. It is a means through which a person can see what is wrong and replace it with what is right. When combined with the trance-like state of self hypnosis, visualisation allows you to replace the negative habits with positive ones.
It does this in a simple and direct fashion. You paint a picture in your mind using strong words. These words conjure up specific images in your mind. For example, you may play a tape containing a script. The script uses words to describe smoking in a very negative fashion. You may picture yourself breathing in the cigarette smoke. It coats your lungs with tar. You cough and feel sick. The air around you tastes terrible.
The next words are positive. They allow you to see yourself as a non-smoker. They paint a picture of you breathing easily. You feel healthy. You are more alive than you have ever been before. You are happy and content. You see yourself in appositive light as being a non-smoker.
When you complete your first session of self hypnosis you are well on your way to a lifetime free from smoking. You will have to repeat the process regularly to ensure the message remains imprinted on your subconscious. Nevertheless, you can quickly establish the basics of your goal through one session of self hypnosis. Smoking will stop.
