Stop Smoking Program

Are you looking for the best stop smoking program? Some people are able to stop cold turkey or with some type of stop smoking aid. But many of us need to participate in some type of stop smoking program in order to quit successfully.
One of the best stop smoking cessation programs is offered by the Mayo Clinic. They offer two locations. One is in Arizona and one is in Minnesota. The Mayo Clinic offers an outpatient program as well as an 8-day residential treatment program. Their nicotine dependence programs are supervised by doctors. The Mayo Clinic programs are facilitated by counselors who have not only received specialized training but also have experience treating people with addictions. They use a combination of counseling and medications in order to assist people with overcoming their dependence on nicotine. Their residential treatment program costs approximately $6,000 plus the cost of medication.

Another highly regarded program is at the Center for a Smoke-Free Life in Napa Valley, California. This stop smoking program has been in existence since 1969. They focus on medicating patients in order to ease issues with withdrawal from nicotine cravings. Their rationale is that people who are not suffering from withdrawal are better able to focus on the strategies they teach to break the cigarette smoking habit forever. This is a 7-day program in beautiful Napa Valley. You should be aware that they boast of a 65% success rate (the percent of participants who still are not smoking 12 months after completion of their program) and claim that theirs is one of the best success rates in the United States.
If only slightly more than half of the participants in an expensive, focused, well-organized stop smoking cessation program like the Center for a Smoke-Free Life are successful at quitting, what are the odds you will be able to quit without participating in this type of program?
I smoked 3 to 4 packs of cigarettes every day for 20 years. During that time, I tried to quit smoking lots of times. But, of all the times I tried to quit, I only tried one stop smoking program… Smokenders. We met in a classroom once every week for maybe 7 or 8 weeks. Of course, it was an instructor-led program that was fairly expensive at the time (maybe $400 or $500). We listened and discussed and learned until the 4th meeting. That was the meeting we were all scheduled to quit. So, we had three weeks of preparation about the benefits of stopping smoking as well as stop smoking methods before we actually quit smoking cigarettes.
As I recall, the process was relatively painless and made a lot of sense. I certainly learned how to stop smoking cigarettes. And it was great… while it lasted. I was driving to work six months later in the middle of winter. It was really cold (it might have been snowing) so I stopped at a convenience store for a cup of coffee. Well, a cigarette really sounded good and I convinced myself that I could smoke just one. Of course, you know the end of that story.
