Teeth Whitening – Options Available
Teeth whitening procedures can not only help you achieve pearly white teeth again, they can do wonders to the way you look besides boosting your confidence. The procedures are several and the option to choose would depend to a great extent on the severity of staining of the teeth.
Whitening toothpaste for milder stains
Actually every toothpaste contain mild abrasive agents that help to remove and fight further staining. There is some toothpaste that has chemical or polishing agents that work to remove stains. The whitening toothpaste is effective against surface stains but they cannot fight deeper stains. The toothpaste do help lighten the color of the teeth and make them look less yellow in appearance.
Over the counter teeth whitening products
There are several whitening teeth options that are available over the counter in the form of gels or strips. The gels contain peroxide that binds with the oxygen on the teeth and help to break down the molecules to probe deeper and get rid of the darker stains. The gels are applied directly to the teeth and results can be seen in about two weeks’ time. Along with the gels, whitening strips are available that also contain peroxide. These strips need to be applied twice a day for 14 days at a stretch for results to be obvious.
Mouth rinses for teeth whitening
There are special whitening rinses that are available and work to remove stains. They work like mouthwashes and help freshen the breath and fight gum disease while the peroxide content works against the stains. The results are seen only after using for 12 weeks and are not very effective against tough stains. However, they are very easy to use. According to experts the teeth whitening rinses are not as effective as the over the counter gels and other products. They are in no way as effective as strips due to the less time of contact with the area that they need to act upon.
Dentist Office teeth whitening procedures
When you visit a dentist for whitening the teeth, he or she may suggest two options based on the severity of the stains. One may be the tray-based whitening method. In this a tray that fits your mouth is made according to your size. You need to squirt some peroxide containing whitening agent on to the mouthpiece and wear it for the recommended period of time on a regular basis.
The other method of teeth whitening may involve in-office bleaching where the whitener is applied directly to the stained teeth. In fact the whitener can be applied after using laser or heat treatment to improve efficacy. The results are obvious after a single sitting at the clinic. Of course, several sittings are required to obtain the desired level of teeth whitening. This method is the best for quick and effective whitening of the teeth.
Teeth whitening gives you an instant face lift when you smile. The brighter and lighter effect can help to make you look and feel good. Choose an option that suits you best and go for it. If you have stubborn stains or want a quick action then the best choice would be to visit a dentist.
